What’s new? Sculptures!
This summer, our founder Neha Singhal will be traveling to India to bring the unique and eye-catching sculptures of Kanchan Chander and Swati Pasari — two remarkable emerging artists which will be added to our collection of Fine Arts.
Kanchan Chander
“I dream of being with Frida as if drinking from the cup of life in her vein.”
Born in 1957 in New Delhi, India, Kanchan Chander studied in India, Germany, Chile, and France. Her interdisciplinary talents lie not only in painting but also in printmaking, sculpting, and academia. However, her artistic practice remains intertwined with the representation of torsos, especially female torsos, often presented without identifying elements such as hands, feet, or a face.
She introduces textiles and tapestry patterns to celebrate the notion of singularity and uniqueness brought about by dressing and accessorizing, and finds inspiration in a medley of sources—ranging from Amrita Sher-Gil and Frida Kahlo’s self-determination and strength to classical Indian temple structures to Bollywood films..
Chander’s strikingly hued works are autobiographical, and for her, art creation is a cathartic process.
Her pieces are present in renowned collections all around the world, such as the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, France; and Fukuoka Art Museum, Japan, and we are thrilled to be adding them to our compendium of up-and-coming artistic talent.
Swati Pasari
Swati Pasari is a talented artist whose distinct style of painting evokes themes of immortality, timelessness, inner stillness, peace, and meditation. Despite her youth, her works reflect immense artistic maturity, portraying her inner soul and celebrating the joy of life, and we are excited to be incorporating them into the Neev by Neha, fine art collection.
A vivacious and self-taught contemporary Indian artist, Swati’s work in Pranic healing and meditation guided her to discover her true calling in art. The sold-out success of her first solo exhibition in 2008 confirmed that she had chosen the right path, and since then she has showcased her paintings extensively across India and internationally.
Swati Pasari's art includes original acrylic paintings and fiberglass sculptures. Recurring themes of Radha Krishna, Ganesh, and semi-abstracts connect these two mediums, reflecting a metaphysical approach to her creative process. “I enter a different dimension when I paint,” she says, “so much so that I do not know what the painting will be until it's done. I see a complete reflection of my thoughts in the painting, and that's how I realize it is done."
