Suraj Kumar Kashi
Born in June 1976 in Jamui, Bihar, Suraj Kumar Kashi has been passionate about art since childhood. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Art College Patna and a Master of Fine Arts from the College of Art, Delhi University, in 2003. Suraj began his career as an Art Director at Ogilvy & Mather, but after two and a half years, he returned to his true passion: painting.
His work seamlessly blends India's rich mythology with surrealism, exploring themes of materialism, spirituality, and personal reflection. Suraj's art has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, including the Athens Biennale in 2013. Notable solo exhibitions include "The World of Desire" in 2012 and "To Be or Not to Be..." in 2021. His pieces have also been featured in major group exhibitions such as the India Art Fair and the Affordable Art Fair in London.
Suraj's vibrant compositions are inspired by temples and Sufi music, creating dreamlike worlds where urban elite and rural folk coexist amidst flying horses and white clouds. His art is part of private collections in India and abroad, and he continues to influence the art world from his studio in New Delhi.
