Rafiq Shah

Rafiq, an abstract artist, explores layers, lines, and new forms to create captivating artwork. His compositions, punctuated by colorful collages and fine columns, evoke fragmented childhood memories and the resonances of a lost village. Without romanticizing the past or succumbing to nostalgia, Rafiq's art confronts the crisis of dislocation and exile. It captures the collision between his serene village roots seeking to find their place in a violent cityscape. Village and city, tradition and modernity, collide in his dynamically vibrant-hued artwork, where sketches metamorphose into smoldering shades, reflecting his journey of self-discovery and transformation. He received his education and scholarship from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. He has actively participated in several solo and group shows all across India. The artist now lives and works in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
